La estrella (star) and la fama are feminine even when they refer to a man: David es una estrella.

Spanish uses ser for lasting qualities and estar for temporary states. A celebrity's character and fame are lasting (ser); being fashionable right now is temporary (estar).

Adjectives agree in gender and number with the person: famoso / famosa / famosos / famosas.

• Creo que los famosos ganan demasiado dinero. — I think celebrities earn too much money.
• En mi opinión, la fama tiene ventajas y desventajas. — In my opinion, fame has advantages and disadvantages.

(Higher tier) After the negative no creo que, the verb goes into the subjunctive: no creo que sea justo (I don't think it's fair).

Comparatives make an opinion sound more sophisticated. Use más/menos... que for "more/less than", tan... como for "as... as", and the irregular forms mejor/peor (better/worse).

1. Using estar for a lasting quality

Fame and character use ser: es famoso, es talentoso. Keep estar for temporary states like está de moda (is in fashion right now).

2. Not making the adjective agree

Match gender and number: una actriz famosa, unos cantantes famosos, not una actriz famoso.

3. Dropping the personal a after seguir

Before a person you need the personal a: sigo a mi cantante favorito, not sigo mi cantante favorito.

4. Forgetting the gender article for influencer and cantante

These nouns show gender through the article: el/la influencer, el/la cantante. Choose el or la to match the person.

5. Using the subjunctive after affirmative creo que

Creo que and pienso que take the indicative: creo que es famoso. Only the negative no creo que takes the subjunctive (Higher tier).
