Aicademy and Medly AI are two of the few AI study tools built specifically for UK exams, which makes them natural rivals. But they are betting on different things. Medly is built around adaptive exam-question practice and AI marking; Aicademy is built around generating your whole study workflow. Both have a UK focus and a free way in, so the real question is which approach fits how you study.

We checked Medly’s features and pricing against public sources in July 2026 and linked them at the end. Medly’s site is app-gated and its pricing has moved, so treat the figures as a guide and confirm on medlyai.com before you pay.

The verdict
Medly is strongest for adaptive exam-question practice with AI marking (including handwriting) and free mock exams, at a premium price. Aicademy is strongest for generating lessons, quizzes and spaced-repetition flashcards from any topic or your own notes, with a tutor, at around a fifth of Medly’s monthly price. Different tools for different habits.

Practice-and-mark vs generate-and-revise

The cleanest way to think about it: Medly is a place to practise and get marked, and Aicademy is a place to generate and revise. Medly shines when you already have exam questions to work through and want fast, marked feedback, including on handwritten answers. Aicademy shines when you want study material built for you, a topic turned into a lesson, quiz and flashcards, with revision that schedules itself.

Where Aicademy differs

  • It generates your material. Type a topic or upload your notes and get a full lesson, quiz and flashcard deck, not just questions to practise.
  • Spaced-repetition flashcards are built in, so recall is scheduled for you, which is not Medly’s focus.
  • One connected workspace of lessons, quizzes, flashcards, notes and a lesson-aware tutor, shaped by a learning profile you set once.
  • Price.£4.99 a month against Medly’s ~£25, which is a large gap if budget matters.

Where Medly wins

Medly has real strengths, and for some students they are exactly the point:

  • Handwriting recognition and auto-marking, including “upload and mark” for external papers, which Aicademy does not do.
  • Free nationwide mock exams (Medly Mocks) with grade boundaries and a results day.
  • Adaptive mastery tracking that estimates how well you know each topic and targets practice accordingly.
  • Wider level coverage, including IB, AP and SAT alongside GCSE and A-level.

Worth noting: like all AI marking tools, its accuracy is not perfect, and some reviews flag maths in particular, so sanity-check important feedback.

Which should you choose?

Pick Medly if you want adaptive exam-question practice, AI marking of written and handwritten answers, and free mock exams, and the higher price is worth it to you. Pick Aicademy if you want your study material generated, lessons, quizzes and spaced-repetition flashcards from any topic or your notes, with a tutor, at a much lower price. Some students would happily use Medly for marked practice and Aicademy to learn and revise the content in the first place.

Bias check: we make Aicademy, so treat our verdict with suspicion. We have given Medly full credit for what it does better, especially its marking and free mocks, and flagged every figure we could not fully verify from its app-gated site. Frequently asked questions

Medly is a UK-focused AI study app for GCSE, A-level, IB, AP and SAT. Its strengths are adaptive exam-question practice, AI marking (including handwriting recognition and 'upload and mark' for external papers), mastery tracking per topic, and free nationwide mock exams. It also has an AI tutor and, from 2026, a Learn Mode with structured lessons.

As of July 2026, Medly is free to start, with full access advertised at around £25 a month, or roughly £200 as a one-off payment lasting until a set exam date. Prices change and its site is app-gated, so confirm the current figures on medlyai.com before paying. Aicademy is £4.99 a month or £39.99 a year.

They make different bets. Medly is strongest for adaptive exam-question practice with AI marking and free mocks, at a premium price. Aicademy is strongest for generating your whole study workflow, lessons, quizzes and spaced-repetition flashcards from any topic or your own notes, with a tutor, at a much lower price. Pick based on whether you want marked question practice or generated study material.

Medly is free to start without entering payment details, and its nationwide Medly Mocks are free, but full access to features like unlimited questions and Learn Mode is on the paid plan. Aicademy also has a free tier, with 20 creations a month.

It depends what you want. For generated lessons, quizzes and spaced-repetition flashcards with an AI tutor at a lower price, Aicademy is a strong alternative. For free UK content, Seneca and Physics & Maths Tutor are worth a look. For AI marking specifically, Save My Exams' Smart Mark is the closest comparison.
